The greatest, most influential freedom fighter that is remembered to this day, Mahatma Gandhi once said, “You must be the change you want to see in the world”; these words significantly describe Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the journey he endured in his quest to end segregation, and obtain equality for his people during the American Civil Rights Movement. Dr. King was the quintessence of social justice, desegregation, social integration and believing in the ethics of humanity without violence. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. helped bring change to America. In the Declaration of Independence, the founding fathers stated that, “All men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights…Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Thomas Jefferson, an American founding father, expressed that citizens of the United States had the right to be free from oppression.…show more content…
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. desired a world with peace and egalitarianism; he brought to the world’s eyes how unfair and unjust blacks were being treated. Each year, on Martin Luther King Jr. day, the third Monday of January, America commemorates and glorifies the hardships, struggles, and battles that he sustained to end segregation. Dr. King, along with members of his organizations, joined The Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights (ACMHR), a civil rights organization who coordinated boycotts and were responsible for bringing awareness of racial discrimination through nonviolent protests with the purpose of desisting racial segregation in Birmingham, Alabama.
