My initial reaction to the reading was that somehow, this great fear of sickness and death was imposed upon this society of people and their trust of the Medicine-Men, the Herbalists, and the Holy-Mouth-Men was so great that they never seemed to question if they were being taken advantage of, or even if they were being made sicker. They traded gifts for a list of ingredients that they were told they would need to heal themselves, but then they had to trade other gifts to get them. It appeared to be a never-ending circle because, their charm boxes were so full of different charms that it’s said, they couldn’t even remember what they were meant to be used for and they were too afraid to reuse them. This meant that they had to go trade more gifts
