The Israelites betrayed God and did not obey him so bad things happened to them. Midianites took their food, and hid it in caves they barely had anything thing to eat. They asked God for forgiveness God chose a poor man named Gideon, a farmer, but God had a plan. Gideon did not belive God chose him. So he said my Lord I will put this sheep skin outside if it is wet and the ground is dry I will belive.
