Shooting an Elephant written in the year of 1956 by George Orwell a journalist and a sub-divisional police officer in Burma talks about his encounter with the ravaging elephant and his experience with the oppressed people of Burma. Throughout the essay he discusses about the “evils of imperialism” and how he had grown to hate colonization even more because of his obligation to show authority and the control that imperialism made him feel. He was forced to contradict his conscience in order to gain respect and leave the impression of invincibility of the Europeans; therefore he had to kill the beast.
