Born Eric Arthur Blair in 1903, later taking on the name George Orwell, was a man of strong opinions, who wrote about some of the major political movements of his times, imperialism being one of many. After finishing school, Orwell’s writing career came to a halt, so he decided to join the British Police Force in 1922. Orwell openly expresses his disgusts of imperialism in his short story “shooting an elephant” where he states “I had already made up my mind that imperialism was an evil thing”.
