In the Hebrew Bible, the book of Genesis versus six through nine, tells the story of Noah and the flood. God warns Noah that he was going to bring a great flood to wipe out all the evil of the world. However, since Noah and his family were righteous and obedient to the Lord they would be spared. God then commanded Noah to build an ark that would shield him, his family and various animals from the destruction of mankind. The passage details which animals and how many of each would be saved, “From the fowl of each kind and from the cattle of each kind and from all that crawls on the earth of each kind, two of each thing shall come to you to be kept alive.” Clearly God expressed that he wants two of each animal to be aboard the ark.
