Gary Soto’s poem “Mating Season” explains how opposites attract in a way that one topic can lead to a variety of different emotions. In "Mating Season" the way the characters reacted to each other represents that although you may feel one way about one thing there are it many other ways to feel about that topic. For example in the poem it says, "She said, I like movies that make me sad. He said, I get sad when Coach sits me on the bench.” They defined their sadness in two complete different ways. Another example is, she said, Autumn is when you hold hands. He said, It’s the start of football season.” Again they compare one topic but express two different emotions on or about that topic.
