Overcoming Generational Poverty with Support There comes a point in life when an individual can make up his or her mind to be something successful. There can also be factors and resources that limit that dream. Ruby Payne introduces in her book, A Framework for Understanding Poverty, that each and every individual needs some type of emotional, physical, mental, or spiritual resource. Each resource has its own determining factors in helping individuals overcome poverty and struggles throughout life. In the play, A Raisin In The Sun, by Lorraine Hansberry, the Younger family is an example of generational poverty. Each family member has his or her own resources that affects their lifestyles. The daughter of the main character has a strong willed personality and plans to overcome generational poverty.
