In Forty Million Dollar Slave, Rhoden thoroughly explains the difficult and long process it took for African-Americans to be able to play and compete in sports. The history that is spoken about in this book helps the reader understand what the circumstances where at the time for African American athletes. Having a passion and being good at a sport, but not being able to play because of the color of your skin is unfair and wrong. In this paper, I will be discussing the breaking of the color barrier in sports, what the title of this book actually means, and my own critique of the author’s opinions throughout the book.
