The Delaware River, the divider between Pennsylvania and New Jersey, is considered tobe the United States’ fifth most polluted river. The river is the longest (405 mi) undammed rivereast of the Mississippi. It starts in the Catskill Mountains in New York State as two tributaries:the East and West branches. It widens into the Delaware Bay south of Trenton. The DelawareRiver serves as the boundary between New York State and Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania and NewJersey, and, further south, New Jersey and Delaware. Along the northern length of the riverpeople experience a more rural lifestyle (The Editors of Encyclopedia Britannica, 2015)..
