Forrest Hills Drive: A Walk through the Hills It seems like every day there is a new rap album out and they are all just absolutely terrible. When you first listen to the album Forrest Hills Drive it might seem to be just another repetitive album with weak beats and no true meaning, other than to rhyme like the rest; the album seems not to offer anything new or special. The album explores topics such as Cole’s adolescence, morals, and his life lessons learned growing up in Forrest Hills. The songs ability to be relatable with its audience is one of the reason for its success. These subjects have been lost to the art of rap, as nowadays rappers talk about their wide assortment of women, large reserves of cash, doing drugs, and staying wasted. When Cole released an album in which each of the thirteen songs can be related to its audience, the buyers were hooked. However, in all honestly there not meant to, they are meant to make a loud statement. The beats go with album just the way popcorn goes with watching movies. Songs such as January 28, show Coles discontent with the world. Early in the song the artist describes his early way of thinking, growing up in a poor neighborhood wondering if his rap career would ever take off. He covers a variety of issues throughout just that one. Topics such as Ferguson, having no role models other than rappers and ball players, and the false happiness that money brings.
