During dawn, “grey, feathery ashes scurried hither and thither at his breath but no spark shone among them.” This gives the reader the image of grey ashes from the fire blowing around but the ashes are not smoldering because the fire has died out and there is no heat left. The author implies that all the chaos of the raging attack last night had died out. The mood is calm and tranquil in the cool dawn. According to Piggy, he believed he had “to be led like a dog” because he thinks he couldn’t see clearly without his glasses. Piggy is incapable of leading because he need to be “led” by others rather than making is own ideas. The comparison to a dog shows that Piggy needs to be taken care of and struggles to survive on his own due to his asthma.…show more content…
Now that the violence was over the beauty of the island is shown which was compared to a cleaned blade of a sword. The author implies that the storm had brought out the violence in all the boys and now that the storm was over the island had remained peaceful. When Ralph was at castle rock, “The savages sniggered a bit and one gesture at Ralph with his spear.” The boys were called “savages” and they were acting immature and uncivilized by sniggering. The savages have their spear pointed which implies that their descent into savagery took away their ability to communicate to Ralph. The author implies that savages cannot be negotiated with and will only resort to violence. Ralph’s “temper blazed out” due to the uncivilized savages and their leader, Jack. This hyperbole exaggerates Ralph’s overwhelming anger from nobody listening to what he says.
