First Impressions One could think that first impressions last a lifetime, and will never be forgotten. First impressions are the way that people perceive someone, and it's hard to change their perception after that impression. In these stories, there were many first impressions being made and interpreted. Some of these impressions were positive, while some others were negative. In the story, "Seventh Grade" by Gary Soto, the main character, Victor, made first impressions and was also affected by first impressions. Roger makes a first impression to the readers and Miss. Awful when he brings toys to school. "As usual, he'd packed a supply of baseball cards for trading opportunities; a spool of string, in case anybody brought a kite; a water pistol for possible use in the lavatory; and a police whistle for sheer noise value," (Cavanaugh 164). These are two examples of when the character Roger makes and is influenced by first impressions. First impressions are very influential, and it's often that people don’t want to change their view of you after that impression. During these three short stories, Laurie, Roger, and Victor all made very different first impressions and were affected by many first impressions. Not all of the characters made good first impressions, but the perception of these characters can possibly change when the story continues.
