Fighting for justice
I have chosen to analyze an article written by Brittney Cooper, the article is called “Dark skinned and plus-sized: the real Rachel Jeantel Story” it was written in 2013 by Brittney Cooper who is an assistant professor of women’s studies and Africana studies at Rutgers university. The target audience for this article would be people age 20 and over because it shows the different racial discrimination which happens every day within that age group. The main argument in the essay is how upper-class white men try to put a young black woman back into her place just because her spoken language wasn’t as advanced as their own. The argument is trying to defend Rachel and persuades people that nobody should be judged on their way of speaking or their skin color. Good on the claim in the article. Before the trial even begins she has already basically lost her argument because the jury are well spoken and speak in a manner that Rachel doesn’t understand. The way they speak to her humiliates her and makes her feel bad about herself. The jury use the excuse of not understanding her as to why they don’t listen to her.
