In the novel Burial Rites written by Hannah Kent, fear can be seen as a major theme as it is very prominent throughout the whole book. It also helps us to understand characters such as Anges, Margret and Toti. As the whole book is centered around the execution of Agnes Magnusdottier the quote “Toti, I don’t think I’m ready. I don’t think they can do it. Can you make them wait? They have to wait”, you can see at the end that she has still not come to terms with her death and is fearful of the prospect of her own execution.
