The same population may be affected by multiple micronutrient deficiencies, although people at different life stages and certain socioeconomic or geographic groups may be more vulnerable to individual nutrient deficiencies. Discuss ways in which single-micronutrient deficiency prevention strategies might be combined, integrated, or coordinated to achieve cost-effective control. There are numerous cases reported around the world where the same population is affected by multiple nutrient deficiencies. These nutrient deficiencies may be attributed to the high poverty levels common in the population of third world countries and middle income countries. These families are not able to afford a balanced diet given their high poverty level. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), (2007), more than 2 billion people on the planet suffer from chronic nutrition deficiencies especially vitamin A, iron, iodine and zinc. However, there are some micronutrient deficiency prevention strategies that can be used to remedy this problem. Expectant and lactating mothers are provided with mineral supplement and vitamin doses to eliminate chances of the young children suffering from nutrient deficiency.
