imagine that when you come back to the town of your childhood, every single person you have ever known and loved has been replaced with an exact copy except for the fact that they are communistic aliens that have no sense of emotion. That is, more or less, the exact plot to the 1956 film "The Invasion of the Body Snatchers". If you were to watch the movie with your only intention being to enjoy the movie you would find an enjoyable thriller with a handsome lead character but of course this school we are talking about. You never get to watch a movie for pure enjoyment and instead you explore how this film is the perfect example of political allegory during the cold war.
The most obvious use of political allegory in the film is how the aliens…show more content… You surely will be equal when youre a mindless drone but hey, at least you will be mindless drones together! The reason this allegory is present in the first place is because Americans were taught to fear the communist lifestyle and communists in general thanks to the propaganda that is constantly and subliminally assulting their mind.
The doctor in the film takes the form of America. The country feels the mighty need to protect themselves from the "evil communists" which the movie depicts as aliens. The film makers felt the need to characterize themselves as the heros that save the day. This would relate to them winning the Cold War.
The wole plot of the movie could resemble the Arms Race. America and the
Soviet Union are against eachother and competing for development and accumulation of weapons. Though it doesnt fit very well in the whole communism theory stated previously, this idea could still fit in with the aliens vs humans thing. Since this is an
American movie, the end of the film shows that the humans won because they see themselves winning this race but if this were a film that was made in the Soviet Union, they would be the ones that came out on
