The safety of the tunnel A great concern for any project is always going to be the safety of the task at hand. Project managers must ensure that it is safe to build for everyone who is working on the site but also for all those who intend to use the service whatever it maybe. In this particular example of The Gotthard base, tunnel safety was critical as they were planning to make history and build the longest tunnel in the world. Tunnels are dangerous places especially those that intend to carry trains loaded with cargo trucks more than 200 times a day. The safety of this tunnel would be the primary factor of the entire design of this tube. The safety of the workers was crucial to ensuring that the project ran smoothly while the work went on. The workers were working in extreme conditions underground. Which led to workers working in sweltering conditions reaching over 100 degrees. The miners worked in near darkness while powering through the thick dusty air. The high possibility of falling rocks.
