From the documents and essays provided by the readings of Chapter 9, I believe the dustbowl was the result of a natural disaster rather than the mistakes and mishaps of planning by the people. John Steinbeck describes the dustbowl and through his depiction one can come to realize that this disaster occurred quickly and harshly. The people did not intend for this to occur and when it did they were unsure just how to deal with what was happening.
