Four years ago, I found out that my Grandma had Cancer. The moment I heard fear overtook me between reading on the internet about Cancer and thinking of every sad song that has to do with the terrible disease. I ran to the church because it was the only place I could think to go and while I was there I realized that if there is one thing I have that it is hope. Hope that she will get better, hope that everything happens for a reason, and hope that this is all in God’s plan. Hope is the only thing that got me through that day. Hope is the one thing that keeps people going even in the darkest times. Hope is a word that has many meanings to many different people. Some of the synonyms for the word hope are belief, positive thinking, and anticipation (Hope Synonyms). First belief, belief is having confidence that something will happen. Next is positive thinking, meaning thinking the best possible thing will happen. Finally, Anticipation, the expectation that something is about to happen. These synonyms are different in their own respect but they do help us to narrow down some of the many meanings of hope.…show more content…
The dictionary defines hope as “the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best (Dictionary.com).” Though the dictionary definition is what scholars look at but, many Christians look to a different definition. Unlike the dictionary definition the bible says that hope is “a strong and confident expectation (Hope).” Digging deeper into the bible it says that “by its very nature, hope stresses two things: (a) futurity, and (b) invisibility. It deals with things we can’t see or haven’t received or both (Hope).” Though these are both definitions of the same word they are in two completely different
