Crossfit is a high intensity interval work out/sport that involves calisthenics movements and a combination of Olympic and power lifting exercises. Every year there is a competition for all crossfit athletes called, “The Crossfit Games,” to crown the most fit man and woman of the world. This documentary captures and interviews athletes preparing for the 2014 Games. This film also reveals what the athletes do in and out of training sessions. Majority of these athletes are full-time employed or student. One of the athletes, Camille, is taking five classes in the summer. Another athlete runs a personal business. These are normal people during business hour. Then transform into animals once they step foot into a crossfit session. Crossfit is about pushing the body into the best shape as possible. Motivation is the direction and intensity of one’s effort. Coaches can learn from this documentary, especially with Camille’s sled training. Athletes need feedback in their failure and success but never when their emotions are high because they are too focused on the situation. Athletes want feedback once they cannot do it themselves. Proverbs 16:18 (NIV) “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.” For example, Camille did not allow for any outside voices to enter her mind until she was tired of trying her own way. Then her husband stepped in and gave some mental feedback for Camille to stay calm and holdback showing frustration. As a coach, I need to remind my players that they are great, stay calm and encourage them to be better than they were yesterday.
