This is one of those things that is easily overlooked but easily understood once it is explained. In the 1950s, businesses were making the earliest ventures into jetliners, and de Havilland DH 106 Comet was the front-runner in commercial productions. It was the awe-inspiring jet of its time with many features, such as a relatively quiet comfortable pressurized passenger cabin that allowed it to fly higher and faster than other aircraft. It was evident that it was a commercial accomplishment at its 1952 debut. Unfortunately, in 1954, two Comets fatally disintegrated midflight for no apparent reason, lives were lost.
