The Life of Fernando Botero
Born in Colombia in 1932, Fernando Botero began his young life attending matador school but after several years he left the school to pursue a career in art. Fernando’s skill level in the arts didn’t take long to be noticed and by 1948 at the age of just sixteen, his artwork was being put on exhibit. Most of his earlier work is inspired by pre-Colombian and Spanish colonial art along with political murals by the Mexican artist Diego Rivera. In the 1950’s, Botero began studying painting in Madrid where he showcased his art at the Prado. While his paintings were being showcased, Fernando began to sale copies to tourists which allowed him to support himself off of the art he was creating.
