This book is comprised of tales of misery, sorrow, joy, and happiness. Irving's pseudonymous narrator, Geoffrey Crayon is well spoken and creates very interesting tales. The Sketch-Book was published in 1819-1820, both in the United States and in England, and became an immediate best seller in both countries. Irving published his work in both places because he feared his book being pirated. Geoffrey Crayon's personality is shown through his stories.
