In “Boys and Girls” by Alice Munroe, there are many differences between the roles of men and those of women. men are described as the hard workers, people who “come from the meathouse’ [their] stiff bloody apron on and a pail of cut-up meat in hand” (Munroe, 56). The gruesome task of slaughtering animals and butchering meat is a dirty job that the women stay away from, look away from in disgust. Contrastingly, women’s work is described as “[sitting] at the table peeling peaches… or cutting up onions” (56). Women are left to do the jobs “too easy” for men to do, a consequence of society's patriarchal structure.
