Massachusetts was founded by English Calvinist, or also known as Puritans. Calvinist had closed societies and strict laws which regulated morality. The founder and governor of this colony, John Winthrop, used those principles create a Boston, “a shining city upon a hill.” Calvinist believed in the concept of predestination, which was the belief that a person was predestine to go to Heaven or Hell before they were born. These puritans also believed in strict religious behavior. This means their way of living was strict godly and they did nothing but live for God.
