Peter Hong 1/22/15 Hum 160-002 Dr.Knapp Memento The film Memento directed by Christopher Nolan is a very intriguing, and unique cinematic experience that all film enthusiasts should watch. Memento brings a unique perspective of narration through its style in sound, visual, and cinematography. From the first to last scene, Memento keeps the audience engaged and speculating what was and is to come. Christopher Nolan creates a story unique to the character for audience to narrate the movie through the protagonist. One of many, in which makes this film unique is the way it narrates the story. In many traditional story-telling there is one person explaining real-time events. Memento takes and structures the protagonist to be explaining two timelines simultaneously. Much of what you see through the contrast of colors through scenes help indicate the time progression throughout the film. The use of sounds or their lack of make the audience more subjective through misen-scene. The lack of audio to portray scene or turn of events are made up for through character identity and character interactions. Another story telling method in which the main character uses to keep track of time, events and people are through the use of Polaroid's (reveals main character's short term memory problem). Polaroid's not only help viewers know the significance of it to the story-line but a foreshadowing. Lots of cinematography leave subtle clues throughout the movie for insight in the climax of the story telling. This is predominantly done through the use of Polaroid's and character interactions unknown to the story line who are later revealed. This keeps viewers speculating and on edge for the story to
