History Essay, Christopher Columbus and the letter to the king and queen of Spain! Introduction We all know that Christopher Columbus wasn’t there to prove the world was round, but to save Spain from losing everything by going to India. He took a crew and sailed around the world going east to reach the west side. By doing so, he had landed in a land unknown to him, and to the European continent itself. Reporting this voyage to the king and queen of Spain, he learned a lot about the culture of the new world and its inhabitants that live there. Sending letters to Spain about collecting gold, slavery, and hardships, he wrote down almost everything he saw. So Columbus set sail with a bunch of men to go and help Spain. On their voyage, they were about to encounter something that would change the Old World forever. They arrived in a place unknown to man thinking that they had just arrived in India. When the letter was sent to the king and queen of Spain, they read carefully and were delighted to see that the inhabitants were easy to take control of and the fact that they had the richest items to offer. They thought it could be a good idea to send people that had nothing to lose over to the new world to become rich. Christopher in his letter sent that he also took the natives by force and enslaved them to do his bidding. Beyond that message he explained how they were not even the slightest sick or deformed. This provided a great advantage for enslaving them, for they could work the bodies of the natives to death.
