There was a time when chubby children were considered cute. It was assumed that their baby fat would melt away and healthy adults would emerge. We know that childhood obesity causes health problems but also psychological problems. In observing the causes of childhood obesity, hopefully we can slow down the epidemic. a. Being obese as a child can really effect your health in the long run. America Heart Association reported a 34.1 percent child obesity rate in Tennessee. Obese children are more likely to become obese adults Tennessee is 4th place with 33.7 percent. b. Childhood obesity is on the rise in the U.S. after all, according to a new report. CBS reports to find a increase in the number of children with obesity, whose body mass index measured 120 to 140 percent higher then children of average healthy weight.. c. First, television and media puts children at risk for serious health problems. American children are exposed to food from the media, and television. 1.The majority of commercials during programs aimed at children are for unhealthy high-fat, high-sugar or high-salt foods with little nutritional value. These advertised foods are consumed in greater quantities than healthier foods, like fruits and vegetables, which are rarely advertised. 2. Food ads makeup most of the ad time on children's shows. Children are rarely exposed to public service announcements or advertising for healthier foods. 3. Watching television increases the wants for sugary drinks, red meat, a lot of fast food. B. Next, improper diet can effect childhood obesity. Changing the eating habits of children is absolutely essential. Most kids eat what their parents buy, so healthy eating needs to start now. 1. Children need certain nutritions to help them grow and develop. If they eat right they would take in the right amount of nutrition. But if they eat more then what is needed that could cause extra
