“So far as seeing things is an art, it is the art of keeping your eyes and ears open” (AE 151). After watching Chasing Ice, there is a new outlook on the world and how it is changing constantly. The film showed the decimation of the ice caps and glaciers due to the climate change. Chasing Ice literally showed how rapidly the ice caps were melting and how severe climate change is really effecting the Earth. James Balog utilized his talents as a photographer to help illustrate his belief that is a fully blown reality. John Burroughs’ statement about art is keeping your eyes and ears open is exactly how James Balog touched viewers. The pictures that he and his team captured showcased breathtaking photographs of the Earth that I possibly will never get to see for myself. Pictures are worth a thousand words is very cliché and seeing is believing, but in this case, that is correct.…show more content… The statistics, as well as the images, shown in the film contradict the reasoning of a myth because humans have been detrimental in the extent of climate change. When James Balog went to speak around various parts of the world, everyone could see how impactful their choices were through the pictures. This strategy was very dynamic in a way that had never been brought to the attention of the public. Everything we do leaves a carbon footprint and has a cause and effect on the environmental status of the Earth. Watching the glaciers disappear within seconds of the calving really influenced my take on the environment because there is a sense that I was a part of that glacier calving. The glaciers are melting at a much faster rate than it has been and that is directly coming from us humans. The Earth is getting warming which is melting the glaciers at a faster rate, the water levels rising due to the excess water which is, in result, causing extreme weather that’s breaking
