Subsequently, I started working in the Cardiothoracic ICU (CTICU). Having worked on CTICU Stepdown, I felt confident working with the patient population. However, l soon realized how much more critical thinking was involved in my new position. My manager and nurse educator helped to hone my critical thinking skills and taught me how invasive hemodynamic monitoring drives management of the critically ill patient.
As a CTICU nurse, I have been nominated by my peers for the Rising Star Award in 2014 and Clinical Excellence Award in 2015. I have also been a regular attendee of AACN’s National Teaching institute (NTI).
