Only a few houses away is Laila who is still yet growing. She is really focused on school. However, the war against the Soviets disrupts her childhood and her older brothers die serving in war. Laila has to quit school due to the war. Laila's mother wears black everyday and remains in her room with the blinds closed until the war has stopped to see waht her sos would have wanted to see. Laila only has her best friend, Tariq, which soon both realize they love each other. A few years later, war reaches their city and bombs fall regularly.
