Regardless of ethics, genetic engineering has the ability to heal unhealthy people. “Genetic Engineering and Our Brave New World” article by Donald F.Moores discusses the benefits engineering can have on a persons’ health. If human genetic engineering can keep a child from having diabetes, why not make it so the child will grow to be strong and healthy? In 1997, a man named Mark Origer was diagnosed with a malignant melanoma. Malignant melanoma is a skin cancer that can be deadly if it spreads to other body parts. Melanoma is sometimes a curable skin cancer depending on what stage a person is in. By the time the cancer reaches stage four, the patient has a fifteen to twenty percent chance of living. The trials in the procedure were an experimental therapy that had never been used in any other patients before. This was the first human gene therapy for Cancer. This was one of the biggest scientific advances. Discovering that genetically engineering cells will cure more humans and unborn babies is life altering. Although this process is still being studied for perfection, it has the ability to create a disease free society, and change the human race.
