Bowen therapy was developed in the 1950’s by an Australian named Tom Bowen. It is a well-known therapy in Australia, New Zealand and parts of Europe but little known in the United States. The Bowen Technique is a holistic remedial, hands-on complementary therapy that is done by using very gentle pressure. The practitioner/ Bowen therapist uses thumbs and fingers on precise points of the body to perform Bowen’s unique sets of rolling-type moves which stimulate the muscles and soft connective tissue (fascia) of the body. The Bowen technique unblocks the blocked communication channels within the body and serves to balance the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The ANS controls most of what goes on in our body.
