Blood Doping When asked to write about “Blood Doping”, I honestly did not know where to begin. At first, I never even heard of blood doping, so the first thing I did was look up what it meant. According to wada-ama.org, “Blood doping is the misuse of certain techniques and/or substances to increase one’s blood cell mass, which allows the body to transport more oxygen to muscles and therefore increases stamina and performance.” After I learned what blood doping actually meant, I looked into the different types of blood doping that were out there. The first one is erythropoietin (EPO), synthetic oxygen carriers, and blood transfusions. All of the ways of blood doping are prohibited under…show more content… I think highly of athletes and how they perform. From being an athlete when I was younger, I personally believe it would be cheating. I do not think it would be fair for an athlete to do blood doping, while other athletes work their butts off for a race, sport, or whatever they are doing. Athletes that partake in blood doping personally shouldn’t be allowed to participate in the sport they are trying to play. I think competing in a sport should be 100% fair for everyone. No drugs, nothing to cheat should be allowed. Unfortunely that is never the case, but hopefully one day it will be for every sport. There are many different negative affects that blood doping has on athletes. It can lea to heart disease, stroke, cerebral or even pulmonary embolism. It can also give someone an autoimmune disease, which can cause a real serious health consequence. Also, blood doping can cause kidney damage, jaundice, and even blood clots. When I was researching more about blood doping I was wondering how someone could get caught doing it. I found out that someone that does it will have a hider blood cell density. Someone could test the athlete’s levels of hemoglobin, or can even be tested through a urine test. Blood doping has gone as far as using some blood doping drugs that drug testers have no idea even
