In the story Beowulf, King Hrothgar, the ruler of the Danes, is troubled by the rages of a demon named Grendel. Every night, Grendel attacks Herot, killing and often eating Danish warriors. Fortunately, a young warrior named Beowulf hears of Grendel’s devastation and travels to Heorot Hall to help King Hrothgar. After Beowulf slays Grendel, Grendel's mother attacks the hall and is also defeated. Beowulf leaves and eventually becomes King of the Geats. Beowulf reigns as king for fifty years but one day after a thief steals a goblet, a dragon attacks the Geats burning villages and killing warriors. Beowulf defeats the dragon but is fatally wounded. After his death his warriors cremate his body and make a tower on a headland in his memory. The story and movie are alike in many ways, but there are a few things that are different. The story seems to be put into deeper detail. The movie just goes over the main facts.…show more content…
The movie and the book both cover all the main parts. Grendel attacks Herot, Beowulf defeats him, Grendel’s mom attacks and he defeats her too, Beowulf becomes king of the Geats, He fights a dragon and dies. The book and the movie explain the story-line well. It’s like most older stories. There is usually a conflict, in Beowulf’s case it’s the monsters. Then there is a mighty warrior who saves everyone and they live happily ever after. In both the movie and the book, Beowulf is looked at and considered a strong and mighty warrior. Most people are jealous of Beowulf and question him. Like Unferth, he questions Beowulf's battle stories and says they aren’t true and repeatedly bashes him. In both, Beowulf proves his worth. Humbly he proves to Unferth and to all who question him how great of a warrior he actually is. The main characters are the same in both too.
