A. Process or Procedure Patient satisfaction is an increasingly important part of patient healing and compliance. One practice that has increased patient satisfaction is bedside report. Patient care is ongoing from shift to shift and the transfer of patient information between shifts is a crucial part of providing quality care, promoting good health and maintaining patient safety. Information shared between shifts should include but not be limited to test results, patient history, procedures, and treatments in order for continuum and continuity of care. A1. Many times nurses’ change in shift reports lack pertinent and real time information or the transfer of patient information takes too long. The variability in reporting systems opens the door for potentially fatal patient errors; therefore, moving to bedside shift reporting has proven to have identified and averted a number of errors (Evans, 2012 p. 281 &Trossman, 2013 p. 7). Bedside shift reporting is has been identified as on strategy to improve desired outcomes. Desired outcomes have been identified by Evans, et al. 2012 as improved staff satisfaction as evidenced by ability to leave at the scheduled time (p. 282). Bedside shift report improves communication between nurses and increases patient safety, encourages patient and family participation thus improving patient care and patient satisfaction. Bedside shift reporting is a patient centered approach in the health care standards of today (Butao, 2010 p. S50-S51).
