The Battle Of Vicksburg was fought May 18, 1863 – July 4, 1863.It was fought in Mississippi.The Union had won and the Confederency had lost.There was many things that had happened like my father losing.The other things that happened was that General Grant undertook a new and bold campaign against Vicksburg and the Confederate defenders under John Pemberton in the late April 1863.Also that when they were done conducting surprise landing below Vicksburg at Bruinsburg, Mississippi, Grant’s forces moved rapidly inland, pushing back the threat posed by Joseph E. Johnston’s forces near Jackson.And once Grants rear was clear,he again turned his sights on Vicksburg.With such great loss that Grant had determined to lay siege to the city to avoid further loss of life.With the Mississippi River now firmly in Union hands, the Confederacy's fate was all but sealed.
