In the novel "One Child," the author Torey Hayden presents many arguments that can be applied to real life. One of these main arguments is the idea that people deserve a second chance. Sometimes, we may not want to forgive people for what they have done, but it may actually be better to let them try again instead of scolding them for their wrong. In the story, when Sheila first arrives, she doesn't want to talk to anyone and locks herself in her own isolated world. Torey knew what Sheila had done, and instead of shaming her for it, Torey decided to reach out to her, taking precautions when needed.
