Prairie Provinces Banff National Park: W 51.5° N, 115.55° W The climate and physical geography of Banff National Park is the reason why this national park is one of the most outstanding parks of Canada. This place meets my criteria of a place where you can see wildlife because of all the elk roaming throughout the park (Banff National Park Canada, 2015). Banff National Park is Canada’s oldest national park and a beautiful place to visit. It is in the interior plains and has open forests and grasslands. It is located in Canadian Rockies (Banff National Park Canada, 2015). The lakes in this park are glacier fed lakes meaning glaciers left depressions on the earth and that is how the lakes were created (Banff National, 2015). There is moist soil because of the big rivers and glaciers. In Banff National Park there are cold winters and mild summers (Banff National, 2013). This weather affects everything in the park including the vegetation, the animals and tourism. White bark pine grow in this park to stabilize steep slopes (White Bark, 2014). Banff National Park is huge with much to experience. There are a variety of animals in the park and one you are almost guaranteed to see is elk as there are more than 350 wandering around (Elk in Banff, 2014). The elk can be found in valley bottoms and open areas. There are big horn sheep which can be seen especially near steep rocky terrain. There are many valley bottoms, open spaces and rocky terrain in Banff National Park which is why tourists are able to such a vast array of animals roam free (Getting Around, 2015). Seeing these animals in their natural habitat is fascinating. There are festivals in Banff such as the Banff Summer Arts Festival and the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival (Banff National, 2015).
