1.)I have chosen to go into the field of sports medicine. There are many different jobs in sports medicine but the main one is an athletic trainer. The reason I have selected this career is because I want to go into the medical field but the idea of being a nurse bores me. I don’t want to be in a hospital all day working in the same environment. I want to go out and be interactive with my patients and care for them with the best of my ability. 3.)Athletic trainers work directly with the athlete either on the field or the court. Not only do they work directly with the athlete they have to work very close with the coaches and health care professionals. “The main thing that athletic trainers do is prevent, diagnose, and treat muscle and bone injuries and illness” (Bureau of Labor Statistics). 6.)Most high schools in the United States have programs such as HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America). In HOSA you pick a career in the medical field that you would like to study and then you compete at nationals and state. If you are an athletic trainer for any sports teams you have to travel with them wherever they go. Sometimes this can really affect your family life. 13.) If you are married or have children and want to be at home a lot then this job might not be for you. Even if you are working as an athletic trainer in a hospital it still requires long hours. 14.) Most athletic trainers work in full-time positions. The salary of an athletic trainer depends on experience, job responsibilities, and varies by job setting. “Median annual earnings of wage-and-salary for athletic trainers were $36,560 in May 2006. The middle 50 percent earned between $28, 920 and $45, 690. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $21,940, while the top 10 percent earned more than $57, 580”
