1. Introduction
Effectively propelling another item to the business includes no. of testing and complex assignments, each discriminatingly connected to the one preceding it. Very regularly great item thoughts miss the mark concerning desires or come up short inside and out on the grounds that one or more errands does not get the important level of consideration. This is particularly genuine if the item idea is not completely accepted during testing or more awful yet, an approved item has not been enhanced for financially effective creation and assembly.
Stage-gate system is used in turning ideas into reality and it is also known as Idea-to-launch process. There are 7 phases of stage-gate system at Ashok Leyland, starting from properly defining…show more content… The product's design and development is carried out, including some early, simple tests of the product and perhaps some early customer testing. The product's marketing and production plans are also developed. It is important that the company adheres to their overall goal of the project, which is reflected in these production and marketing plans. Doing this will allow them to definitively decide who they will market their product to and how they will get the product to that target audience. The development team maps out a realistic timeline with specific milestones that are described as SMART: specific, measurable, actionable, realistic, and time-bound. The timeline is frequently reviewed and updated, helping the team stay on task and giving management information about the product's progress. In the development phase, the product builds momentum as the company commits more resources to the project and makes full use of cross-functional teamwork as the marketing, technical, manufacturing, and sales departments all come together to offer their expert opinions. Having a diversified and parallel development phase ensures that the product continues to meet the company's technical and financial goals. A diverse team allows specific roles and leadership positions to develop as team members make contributions using their strongest attributes. With members having clearly defined…show more content… Design is uploaded by product development (PD) department to a portal of Ashok Leyland called LEAP (Lean Engineering Application and Process), from where every authorized official can view and download the design for further assistance in production. Design release includes releasing ESK (Engineering Sketch) and BOM (Bill of Material):
3.1. Engineering Sketch (ESK) - ESK is the 3D representation of every component describing about how fitment of any component is to be done, their correct orientation, position and part no. Routing of wire harness, modular hoses, fuel hose, hydraulic pipes, CAC (Charge Air Cooler) pipe is also clearly shown in the sketch. Also, the bolts which require torqueing and their torqueing value is mentioned. This helps the operator to produce a vehicle correctly reducing the chances error.
ESK is released for each and every component for new model and in case of modification in already existing model, only the component or part being modified and the parts that are need to be changed to support the modification only those part’s ESK is released and rest being the
