“Characterize people by their actions and you will never be fooled by their words.” well that didn't work for Ashleigh. Ashleigh’s parents have been divorced for now two years, and are not friends. Her dad is a poor, irresponsible bum, but he is a dreamer. He needs money for some financial problems, so he manipulate Ashleigh (Ashes) by being nice to her into having her steal $200 from her mom for him. Ashleigh did not take the money because of why her mom needs that money, there are other ways to help her dad, and Ashleigh knows her dad doesn't always keep his promises. Ashes’ mom needs that $200. Page 1 of Ashes by Susan Beth Pfeffer states that “Mom, who was still working on completing her degree…” which implies that her mother is still in school. That $200 can absolutely help Ashes’ mom with her school. Page 4 of Ashes by Susan Beth Pfeffer says “Her earthquake money. Her martian money.” that means that it is her mom’s emergency money. What is she going to do when an emergency happens and she doesn't have that $200 of earthquake and martian money with her?…show more content…
In page 1 of Ashes by Susan Beth Pfeffer recalled that “He’s” her dad, ”an irresponsible bum.” therefore he -most likely- does not have a job and/or career. If Ashes helps her dad get a well-paying job, then he can pay off the $200 he has in debt easily. Also, in page 1 of Ashes by Susan Beth Pfeffer, the text pointed out “...or didn’t have the money for the class trip…” don’t make him pay for unnecessary things like class field trips and, again, he could have saved $200 to pay off his life
