16 and Pregnant is an American reality television series, debuted in 2009 on MTV, that tells the stories of pregnant high school girls facing the hardships of teenage pregnancy. Each episode features a different teenage girl, with the episode beginning when she is four and a half to eight months pregnant and ending when the baby is a few months old. Some concerned adults fear that the show promotes teen pregnancy and think that because the teen moms on the show became popular, the teens watching the show would become jealous and would eventually want to have babies. However, the show appears to have done the exact opposite of what opposing viewers suggested and has done a lot of positive things for our society including making teenagers aware of the hardships of teenage pregnancy, inspiring viewers to research birth control and contraceptive methods, and giving teenagers something to talk about with their friends and family. One valuable outcome of the show is that it shows how difficult it is to raise a child as a teenager. The show makes it clear that being a teenager and a mom at the same time is a hard thing. The professors explained that when teenagers see things that are meaningful to them, they commonly tweet about them or search for things related to it. They found thousands of tweets that said 16 and Pregnant is the best kind of birth control. A lot of the tweets included teen girls saying that because of watching the show, they remembered the take their birth control
