Maxim Fujita Ms. Grogan Harrison High School 11/25/2014 Teens especially are more prone to addiction, and metal illness. Holden, a teen living in the 1950’s an age of materialism and social order, is very rebellious in his social ideologies. He takes part in various tasks in which he risks not only his life but also his relationship with other people as well. Holden is suffering from combination of mental disorders. Holden’s mental health has deteriorated over time after the tragic loss of his younger brother Alley. PTSD is a type of anxiety disorder. It can occur after you have gone through an extreme emotional trauma that involved the threat of injury or death. "I was only thirteen and they were going to have me psychoanalyzed and all, the night Allie died, and I broke all the windows with my fist, just for the hell of it" (Salinger 39). Holden's brother died of leukemia and at the time he didn’t know how to properly deal with the situation. But later on he says, "It was a very stupid thing to do, I'll admit, but I hardly didn't even know I was doing it, and you didn't know Allie" (Salinger 39). In these few quotes…show more content…
An anxiety disorder is “a mental health condition that involves excessive amounts of anxiety, fear, nervousness, worry, or dread” (Anxiety Disorder). Through out the novel Holden maintained an attitude against people’s stereotypes. He is quick to judge people or he finds them innocent. The novel exhibits, at various times, fear and/ or nervousness. Clearly being the definition of having an anxiety disorder. Some may say “Everyone experiences feelings of anxiety from time to time” (Anxiety Disorder).
