Andrew Carnegie: Robber Baron or Captain of Industry Andrew Carnegie was born in Dunfermline, Scotland on November 25th, 1835. His family consisted of his Wife Louise and daughter Margaret. He and his family moved to Pennsylvania in 1848 and he started working in factories as a teenager. In the 1850s Carnegie made a very wise investment into a sleeping car company which led to his early success in the railroad business. Andrew Carnegie is well known for being a 19th century steel tycoon and the 20th century’s most famous philanthropists.
