Ride the lightning Ride the lightning album - Metallica Lyrics Thrash Metal The song’s theme is represented strongly within these lyrics.The theme of death fits well within this song, with the main title being a reference ‘ride the lightning’ that an inmate is sent to death row for a crime the he supposedly didn't commit. This song’s story follows the perspective of a person falling under criminal justice. The way the lyrics portrays this idea, is very open. Unlike how the later songs released by Metallica have been more symbolic. This idea is evident from lines “guilty as charged” and “jump in the electric chair. These lines tell me that an inmate within a prison has been sent to death row and is feeling remorseful. The line “Someone help me, Oh please god help me!” tells me this, because the inmate is wanting to find anyway to get out of death's way, even if the inmate must resort to religion.…show more content…
It is possible that this inmate may have not commited the crime. Which was also referenced within these song’s lyrics. The line “dammit it ain't right” tells me this. That ‘it ain't right’ that this person had committed this crime and the person is innocent. The inmate could also be falling under the five stages of grief, the two I found to be the strongest. Was denial and acceptance evidence being from the lines “this can’t be happening to me” telling me that this person may not believe reality at this point and they will find anyway to get out of this and “how true is this, just get it over with, if this is true just let it be” this tells me that the inmate has accepted their fate and will deal with any fate the are presented with, including
