CSR in Amul Organizational structure AMUL is a three-tier co-operative organization. First-tier is the co-operative society at the village where milk producers are members, managing the co-operative through a democratically elected managing committee therefore undertaking business by buying milk from members and selling it to the district-level cooperative. There are more than 11,000 cooperatives in villages of Gujarat. The second-tier happens to be the district cooperative that transforms milk into milk products, marketing it locally and then sells surplus to the state cooperative for national and international marketing. Each function involves 23.60 lakh primary milk producers; 35,000 rural workmen in more than 11,400 village societies; 12,000 workers in 15 dairy plants; 750 marketing professionals; 10,500 salesmen in distribution network and 600,000 salesmen in retail network. Under Amul Yatra the wholesalers and their sales people are taken on a visit to Anand. Amid this visit they are demonstrated dairy plants, their upkeep, international standards of cleaniness and quality; the practices embraced for clean milk production, and above all the cooperative philosophy. Through coordinated conversation with the farmers, the wholesalers and sales representatives acknowledge AMUL is a large business of small farmers. The visit leaves an everlasting impact on their minds that by selling AMUL products, they are releasing a social responsibility towards a huge number of poor farmers whose livelihood depends upon their skill and trustworthiness.
