Picture yourself miles away from one of you loved ones, you'd be sad not being able to see them for a while, but with modern day technology, you now have the ability to Skype or Face time them from a device and speak face to face, which shows technology is an ally. In the article “Own It: Social Media Isn't Just Something Other People Do,” by Alexandra Samuel she opposes the argument made by Sherry Turkle that technology is the reason society is not able to communicate face to face, like they used to in the old days, also saying in her article “The Flight From Conversation,” that we are “alone together.” In Samuel's' article, She goes against Turkle's argument by saying “we are only as alone as we choose to be,” (Samuel pg. 1) which is the…show more content…
3) This is a huge factor in the argument of technology interfering with communication, because I can stay connected to my friends all day without physically seeing them. Through social media via Twitter, Instragram, Facebook and etc. I can see what they're doing through pictures and videos that they post on social media, and I can message them quickly. Also with the abilities given by social media in technology, I can make friends from all over the world, plus with social media, if I were a business, a group or etc. I could promote and advertise, while networking with others to build and brand myself, this is just scratching the surface of how good technology is. “We can truly listen to, and truly be heard, because online affinity groups help us find or discover friends who are prepared to meet us as we really are,” (Samuel pg. 3) This quote adds to my point that social media is a big advancement in society, I can vent and express feeling on social media, that I maybe can't talk about with some of my friends or parents because I may feel that they won't be able to help me, but I know that I can be heard on social media, and I know that I could also help others in their time of need. For example, recently a family member of mines passed away and I was so heart broken that I posted something on social media expressing my feelings, and in the matter of minutes I got a bunch of post with people sending their condolences. Also technology hasn't disrupted the way we communicate, it has actually helped, now a day you can go on the internet and use dating websites to set up dates, and you can select the specifics you want in a person like race, religion, height and etc. This is helpful for people who have problems asking a female or male out, for example, say
