A generic drug is a pharmaceutical drug that is identical to a band name drug in dosage form, safety, route of administration, quality, performance characteristic and intended use. Generic drugs are also chemically identical to their counterpart’s brand name. Generic drugs have lower research costs and increased market competition and those savings are passed on to the patient. Every drug has at least three names a chemical name a generic name and a brand name. The chemical name describes the atomic weight and molecule structure of that drug. The name can sometimes be to complex and complicated for general use to the public therefore brand names are made up to make it easier. Paracetamol is a name for the generic drug acetaminophen. Acetaminophen is the active ingredient in the branded medication Tylenol. Paracetamol like many other such as Panadol had to undergo many tests to prove that it was similar to Acetaminophen once the generics drugs 20 years where up to prove it was able be sold across the counter. Acetaminophen is a generic drug that treats fevers. Acetaminophen was discovered in 1877 and is listed in the Worlds Health Organisation of Essential Medicines. Acetaminophen has many trade names as it is a very popular drug trade names include Tylenol and Panadol. In the early 1800’s it was used as a pain reliever and still to till this day it acetaminophen still is. Acetaminophen was approves for use by the US Food & Drug Administration in the 1950’s and shortly after it was discovered to be a drug closely related to paracetin which was broken down in the body to acetaminophen. Methformin is also used for treating type 2 in diabetes in adults and children and it can also be used alone or in combination with other diabetic medication. Methformin is sold under several trade names including Carbohyage, Glucophage, XR Glumetza, Daibex and Diaformin to name a few each drug of these have underwent many tests which the FDRA to determine whether or not this are suitable generic drugs to Methormin.
